How to judge the compatibility and quality of high-speed cables?

Cost Saving play a important role in the IDC data center transmission system, especially  large high -speed cable required and various types switches interconnected.therefore, how to compatible with various brand switches?

How do we determine the compatibility and quality of high-speed cables when we purchase? LANMexx share some knowledge to identify the compatibility of high speed cable.

1.Does our optical module have the Data Diagnostic Monitoring Interface (DDMI) specified by the SFF-8432 standard?

The SFF-8432 standard is a key factor in determining the quality and compatibility of high-speed cables. It was developed by the SFF committee to define the data diagnostic monitoring

interface (DDMI) of the optical module, it helps us understand the high-speed cable parameters in real time.

DDMI is also called DDM or DOM. It has an alarm function when one or more data in the high-speed cable operation exceeds the standard parameters specified by the manufacturer.

2.Does our high-speed cable have fault location?

Fault location helps engineers find problems and quickly locate high-speed cables and reduce down time.

If the compatible high-speed cable has Data Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM), we can use DDM to analyze each parameter of the high-speed cable,

such as output optical power, virtual channel connection (VCC), etc., to determine the point of failure in the fiber link

3.Does our module pass the compatibility verification?

Compatibility needs to be tested on the switch to check the operation of high-speed cables, This is the only way to determine the performance of high-speed cables.

In general, the higher the performance of high-speed cables, the stronger the compatibility

4.How does LANMexx test the compatibility of high-speed cables?

The high-speed cables provided by LANMexx will be tested for switch compatibility before shipment, ensuring that each high-speed cable is 100% compatible.

We have switches for major brand network devices, such as Cisco, Juniper, Huawei, HP, Huawei, Extreme, F5, Finisar, Force10,H3C,HP,Intel, Linksys, Marconi, Moxa, Netgear,

Data Center: Is 25G, 40G or 100G the best solution?

Data Center: Is 25G, 40G or 100G the best solution?

Data Center: Is 25G, 40G or 100G the best solution?

For Internet + era day, What is main productivity, undoubtedly it is “big data”, and the data center is the key to the success of big data strategy, need to constantly “advance with the times.”

Although in recent years , 10G Ethernet has been the most economical and high-performance interconnect for data center server networks , But with the explosive growth of cloud computing and the Internet of Things (IoT), coupled with the high throughput supported by server and storage solutions.

The bandwidth of the data center needs to grow to meet the massive data flow needs of current and future clouds.

The question facing the data center is: Is it the best solution to adopt 25G, 40G or 100G?

ODCC Take the lead in launching 25G ToR switch specification and announced details

While we are still keenly discussing whether 25G can set off the mainstream, there is no clear technical norm for 25G TOR switch products in the industry. According to different business scenarios, the specifications of the 25G TOR switch have been formulated firstly by China’s ODCC (Open Data Center Committee) , fully considered its reliability, flexibility, energy efficiency level, cost, etc. enhanced the remote diagnosis and operation and maintenance functions , unified the CPU platform and hardware platform. Details of the specification has been published on the official website of ODCC.

Yang Zhihua, head of the ODCC network working group, said: “The ODCC’s 25G TOR specification is reflected in the network demand of China’s Internet enterprise data center , which represented by Baidu and Ali. In the 25G industry, the hardware specification requirements for 25G TOR are clearly stated earlier. It also indicates the product development roadmap for the relevant OEM/ODM supplier. As the 25G network deployment progresses, the technical specification may be further refined or adjusted according to business needs.”

The 25G TOR specification is derived from the needs of some users who have a faster demand for new technologies and has a demonstration effect on other users. It is expected that the first batch of 25G network deployment in China will start in the first half of 2017, and a larger deployment is expected to occur in 2018. Companies that offer large-scale IAAS cloud services are expected to deploy 25G networks more aggressively.

Yang Zhihua also pointed out: “Whether it is 25G network or other solutions, whether or not to adopt or when to apply depends entirely on the decision-making of each enterprise, but ODCC will conduct forward-looking technology through public meetings, salons, summits, public numbers, Weibo and other channels. And best practice advocacy, and launch more specific necessary technical and program discussions within the scope of ODCC members. ODCC welcomes industry chain partners to provide comments and suggestions.”

It can be said that the introduction of this 25G TOR specification fully confirms the industry’s unified recognition of 25G as the mainstream technology for future development. The introduction of the standard will greatly promote the overall upgrade of the data center to 25G. The large-scale deployment and application in China can be foreseen.

25G becomes a 10G Ethernet baton

Why can 25G become a 10G Ethernet baton? Nicholas Ilyadis analysed, vice president of portfolio and technology strategy at Marvell, while four 10GbE physical channels can be aggregated to achieve 40G, or 10 10G channels can be aggregated to run at 100G speeds, but these solutions are more expensive and consume more power than 25G .Besides , compared to 10G, the 25G solution has the advantage of enhanced computing and storage efficiency, providing a higher bandwidth, faster connection, and can run 50G for two 25G channels or 100G for four channels. Capital and operating expenses are relatively balanced when it comes to next-generation networks. Moreover, 25GbE is backward compatible and can communicate with 10G, so after adding a new server, it can still work with existing network devices.

“It can be said that the 25G easy migration, cost/performance balance, and real-time visibility of the network will drive the next generation of data to 25G to take advantage of its faster port speed and 25G cost curve,” concludes Nicholas Ilyadis.
